About us

We are Mireille and Ramon, the people behind Portugal House Hunters.

In 1994 we made the move to Portugal ourselves. We started a business, learned the language, built a network, and fully integrated into the local culture. But we have remained Dutch, down-to-earth, direct, and honest.

Over the past thirty years we have experienced everything up close. We bought houses ourselves, including a property under construction, and learned how different things work in Portugal. That experience, including the challenges, is the foundation of what we do today.

We understand how overwhelming it can feel to buy a house in a foreign country. Different rules, a different culture, a different way of doing business. That is exactly why we do what we do. Not as intermediaries, but as people who know you, understand what you need, and honestly tell you what to watch out for.

With our local knowledge, wide network, and fluent command of Portuguese, we make sure you feel well supported throughout the entire process, from the first orientation to long after the key handover.

We want everyone to experience the feeling of truly belonging in Portugal. And we hope we may help you with that.

Our approach

1. Intake meeting
The first step is an intake meeting, where we get to know each other better and discuss your wishes and expectations. This can be done via a video call or during a face-to-face meeting. We will address important matters such as your budget, the desired region, the type of property, and any future plans. Additionally, we will look into the support you need, from property selection to legal and administrative assistance. Finally, we aim to gain insight into your expectations regarding the purchasing process, timelines, and any concerns or questions you may have. This conversation helps us to optimally guide you in finding your dream home in Portugal.

2. Determine search criteria
The second step in the process is to agree on the search criteria. Based on our intake meeting, we will establish clear criteria together for your ideal home, such as location, size, type of property, and specific features. This helps us to search more effectively for homes that fully meet your wishes. Once we have finalized these criteria, we can start selecting properties that align with your preferences and budget.

3. The search
The third step is for us to search on your behalf. With the agreed-upon search criteria, we actively look for suitable properties that meet your wishes and requirements. We utilize our local network and market knowledge to find a selection of homes that we then present to you. This ensures that you only see the most relevant options.

4. Consultation
The fourth step is the consultation. After we have found a selection of suitable properties, we take the time to review these together with you. We discuss the pros and cons of each option, allowing you to make an informed decision. During this process, we answer any questions you may have and consider your feedback to further refine the search if necessary. This ensures that you remain fully involved in the process and find the right home.

5. Viewings
The fifth step is the viewings. Once we have compiled a shortlist of properties, we schedule viewings so you can see the homes in person. During these viewings, we provide you with additional information and answer all your questions. We help you get a good feel for each property, allowing you to make an informed decision. After the viewings, we discuss your impressions and the next steps. More information can also be found under Property Viewing Trips.

6. Purchasing process
The sixth step is the purchasing process. Once you have selected a property, we guide you through the entire buying process. We ensure that you receive strong support with all legal and administrative matters, from drafting the purchase offer to reviewing the necessary documents. We provide you with advice and assistance, so you feel confident during the purchase. Our goal is to make the process as smooth as possible, allowing you to confidently embark on your new life in Portugal.

Practical matters & Your start in Portugal

7. Practical matters & Your start in Portugal
The keys are yours. And that’s when Portugal truly begins.

After the notary, real life starts: new routines, registrations, dealing with authorities, and all those small and big questions about how things work here. We know these questions very well, we’ve been through them all ourselves.

That’s why we don’t stop at the key handover. With our relocation support, we stay by your side to help you settle in with peace of mind.
Because a good start is half the work!

30 years in Portugal. Two passionate locals. One goal: helping you make the right choices. We’d love to hear from you.

Warm regards, Mireille en Ramon
